The woods

It's a balmy 25 degrees outside today. A perfect temperature for a walk in the woods. Vella and I left the boys studying multiplication and trudged down toward the pond. It had been awhile since I had ventured that far...you would think that living in northern New England for pretty much my entire life would mean I would KNOW and PREPARE for winter...but, alas...I don't. I always put off buying boots or gloves or even a jacket for myself..because, well, my kids come first. So, I have a slip on pair of nice snow shoes...and they are nice, they have great tread and are warm and made of leather, but they're only ankle high which doesn't bode well for walks through an un-plowed field covered in two feet of snow. I made it though, without breaking my ankle or knee or anything else.
It was so quiet in the woods...I love that about this place. You can't hear the cars, so much of a change from the other house. The woods are mostly made up of pine trees which makes walking through the woods fairly easy since very little snow gets through to the ground in there. There were animal tracks everywhere...rabbit, squirrel, chipmunk, deer....of course I'm guessing..for all I know it could be turkey, bear, possum and aardvark. A tracker I am not.

When I lost feeling in my ankles I had to come back...but I think I may plow a path down there and try and keep it open this winter. Maybe I can find a pair of snow shoes or even x-country skis...although I don't know if I'm coordinated enough to manage x-country skiing down there by myself. I may fall and depending on the day and what kind of mood I woke up in, someone MAY come after me....or not.

That's so funny...if I fell in the woods there is not a single child in my home that would say "where's mom, we should go find her". Beautiful country.

I don't think anyone would come and look for me until they noticed I wasn't cooking them dinner ;D

I have to say I'm just a little bit jealous of your snow. We've had an unseasonably warm winter out here, and the inch we did get melted a few hours later. Of course, the other part of me is really, really, really glad that we don't have that much snow, 'cause shoveling it is no fun!

I enjoy your photos of snow more than I enjoy having snow of my own. :}
