I'm the mother of a high school graduate??

My first born graduated from high school yesterday. I'm still in shock. What happened to my little girl?? It doesn't seem possible that she would be old enough to graduated...to be out on her own..to be..an ADULT. Egads!
Yesterday was hot...hot like the surface of the sun. I'm not lying. I live in northern Vermont so anything over 90 degrees is ungodly and seeing as how its only the beginning of June that kind of weather is just strange...very very strange.

The administrators decided to move the ceremony inside just in case there was a lighting storm that moved through (that would have been amusing...500 people sitting in metal chairs on an open track field...ouch), so we all squeezed into the ice arena. Now, keep in mind I live in the middle of nowhere..this "ice arena" is really a big metal building with a cement floor that they flood in October and let freeze. Real hi-tech. Imagine the families and friends of 161 graduates squeezed into a metal building in 95 degree heat. They opened the big door long enough for the kids to file in..then shut us all in there to cook slowly. If I could imagine hell..this would be close.

My kids were red faced and had a bit of a "melty" look about them..like they were wilting right before my eyes...poor things. We were mid-building, and the PA system was just a mike and two speakers on the stage, I had to keep cupping my ears to hear what they were saying. They finally got through all the speeches and the music (they play music at graduations?!?!? I had no idea...3 movements even...) finally it was time for the diplomas. My beautiful, wonderful daughter took off her shoes and received her diploma barefooted. Yay Aysha! Let those Flippers free!!! When we finally made it out, we were all sweaty and sticky...but everyone was smiling and happy. After all...whats a little heat and humidity when you've been waiting 4 years for this moment. My baby..I'm so proud. *sniff* *cry*

NO kidding?! In your photo, you look like you're 30, definitely not old enough to have a high school graduate.

Congrats to your daugther!! No easy task getting through high school these days. And congrats to you for surviving the "oven"...LOL!

Stace,
Congratulations! Yes, I know your daughter is the one who graduated (a big kuddos to her, too ;), but you got one through. There are days when I wonder if mine will survive long enough to finish *snort*

Sorry about your heat wave. It's currently overcast and 55 degrees here. I have a blanket over my lap and a sweatshirt on. Maybe if I trade some of my cool weather for some of your warm weather, we can balance it out at about 80 degrees!

OMG...did I type 30? I meant 20!!!

The brain works in strange, and embarrassing, ways. I had posted this comment earlier today, and it was just now, when I was typing up my TTs, and wrote the word "thirty", that I realized I had mistyped in this comment.

Oy, I'm off to bed to replenish, or at least re-wire, those brain cells now....

Thank you both for the congratulations...there were times I wondered if we'd both make it...one down...three to go...
