Oh look! I'm going off like Vesuvius again! Greeeaaat. Read at your own risk.

Some days I just hate logging onto Facebook.  Let me make this very clear right up front;  I don't care what your political agenda is.  I don't care if you have protested for or against OWS, I don't care if you boycott Walmart, I don't care if you are registered as a Democrat or a Republican.  All I really care about is that you can think for yourself in these matters and can express yourself as to why you support whatever it is that you support.  I don't want to hear a bunch of BS media tainted "facts" spewed back at me...I want your real thoughts on things...I want to know that you've dug in and done the research.  I don't think that is too much to expect....ha ha.  I know.

When I log in ANYWHERE and see someone sharing or liking an article that says "Republicans are idiots and arguing with them is a waste of time".  It immediately pisses me off.  PISSES.ME.OFF people.  Really.  I know tons of people out there that arguing with is a waste of time....I may or may not be among them...*ahem*.  But...and this is a BIG BUT....I would never categorize them into a single group based on, let's see..race, age, gender, sexuality or..hm..political group...because...it would make me a bigot, wouldn't it??  The interesting thing about this "article"..is that it is slamming a republican because he is a bigot....and a few other things..I mean...if I believed everything the media writes I'd think this guy was evil to the core.  It's a good thing I guess that I have a brain in my head and can reason that a very left wing site published this article...therefore I'm very, very sure that it has been embellished at least on some level.  I'm not saying the guy isn't a top notch asshat, he very well may be.  What I'm saying is that going off the deep end over an article written by someone who is probably as big of an asshat as the articles subject, makes YOU look like a bigoted idiot as well.  Use your heads people.

Unfortunately these seem to be the same people that keep getting petitions signed and passing laws to protect us from ourselves.  They don't seem to understand that part of living your life is taking risks....and you can't save everyone.  Michigan is trying to pass a law that will make it illegal for any child under the age of 16 to work on a farm.  It does, of course, exclude "family farms".  If you live on the farm you are allowed to work there...there are no clauses though for multi generational farms where the grandparents or great grandparents live on the farm and the kids/grand kids live elsewhere and work there.  They are also trying to pass laws that you can't drive a tractor without an operators license.    Do you know how many farms that is going to hurt??  Does anyone realize that they're killing a way of life?  My mother's first paying job was at the age of 11...she walked neighborhood dogs.  When she got a little bit older...13/14 she would go and clean peoples houses.  She was picking bottles up on the side of the road when she was 6!  You don't see this now....too many laws "protect" our children from losing their childhood to work.  I believe children should be children....they should have the time to play and have fun while they are young...BUT not letting them work until they are 16 is creating a whole generation of slacker workers who expect things to be given to them.  They have no work ethic.  They just don't care and they have no issues about walking if the job gets too "hard".  Their parents have worked hard to give them all the fun stuff they wanted when they were young...and now they have that same attitude of "give me" going into the work force.  Or they're whining about how "unfair" it is....I'd love to see the whole lot of them plucked from their "unfair" life and dropped into the 1930's at the height of the depression.  Let them fend for themselves in  a world where people actually starved to death on the side of the road.  I bet that would rip the word "unfair" right out of their vocabulary.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of laws and programs that I think are valuable and important.  I just really think that the American people are bored and as much as they all like to label themselves as "peace loving' and 'non-confrontational"....they are all looking for a fight.  We are too comfortable and complacent in these lives that we've created.  Yes, we're not out beating each other over the head (well...not all of us anyway) with clubs...but we're certainly smacking each other with protests, and petitions and laws.  It is still all about thinking that our opinion is the right one and trying to bend everyone else to it.  It frustrates me to no end..and makes me want to go live like a hermit in the middle of nowhere.  In fact...I'm getting off my soapbox and going back to bury my head in the sand.

My first thought was: "OMG - Was I the one that posted whatever sent her over the edge?"(But then I remembered that I didn't post anything political lately.)LOL I *know* that I've ranted about Wal-Mart before. Seriously, every time I go in there (which, admittedly is only about twice a year) I do a random check of items in various departments. Their prices are never, EVER lower than anywhere else! I'm beginning to wonder if their constant declaration of having the lowest prices is just a ruse that people buy into blindly. "Well, they say their prices are lower, so it *must* be true..." *climbs off of soapbox.*

Cody actually complains because we won't "let him" have a job! Which is true...to a point. My stance is that if he's going to have a job that would make it difficult for him to continue his homeschooling studies or any of his volunteer work, he has to be learning a skill somewhere above "Would you like fries with that?" I'm such a mean mom. :P

lol...I try not to go over the edge often...living where I do though, this year might be difficult for me in that department. All I ask is for people to use their heads and stop finger pointing.
Your kid won't be one of the kids complaining about how 'unfair" his job is though...you've actually instilled a work ethic into him.
Walmart...i swear they play subliminal messages in the music.....*buy more crap...go ahead..you know you want to....* :P

I had the same thought as Firefly Mom...LOL! I personally hate Wal-Mart and never shop there, but I also try very hard not to beat people over the head with it (because I have a ton of other convictions that I don't hit people over the head with either).

One of my homeschool friends was just complaining that home schooled teens have to get permission (license?) to work through the public schools. That's insane. But not letting kids work is tons more insane! How else are you supposed to instill work ethic? What are kids good for if not farm and home labor (LOL!)?

And blow up anytime...as I've said before, it's your blog and you can rant if you want to! =)

This is all too true...

"Unfortunately these seem to be the same people that keep getting petitions signed and passing laws to protect us from ourselves."

The working and the productive are being ruled by the organized complainers and takers.

...and what do we need to do to get you to post more often?

I'm just now stumbling upon this post and I ADORE it. I almost fell off my chair with the name of the group you mentioned because that very group is the one that caused me to make my first official unfriending on FB. She was an art group friend who is on opposite ends of the political spectrum from me...it was news to me that I had become an idiot on the day I'd registered as a republican...I feel so ashamed that I've thought I was intelligent all these years. It seems so weird but even though we'd never met in person I found her rants and posts very hurtful. While I didn't agree I didn't think any lower of her nor choose to use FB as my personal sounding board to lump all democrats or other parties into one lump group. I can't imagine her way of thinking...it was so very hateful solely based on my political party...really?!? I simply couldn't take it any more...if there was someone who was the idiot it was her. On a side note, she loathes Wal-mart and I on the other hand have apparently been brainwashed with the "buy more crap...go ahead..you know you want to..." subliminal messages I hear there. (p.s. I also discovered my blog has been severely neglected)

Maybe my Walmart is different than your Walmart, but it is definitely cheaper on most things than Fred Meyer, Safeway and Sears (my only other shopping options). Yes, they have a bunch of cheaply made shit, but beyond that I can save quite a few bucks shopping there so I do. I would love to buy strictly local, but until I can pay off my debts I have to save that buck where I can.

I hate generalizations, too. It's like saying everyone with blue eyes can't drive (or something stupid like that). Labels, labels, labels.

As the proud parent of an unmotivated almost 19-year old with no desire to get off the couch and get a job and can vouch for the importance of kids having some kind of work at a younger age before laziness sets in permanently. Hopefully, I get it right with the next four....

I dont have very many shopping choices either..while there are some things that I am OK with paying more for (food, adult clothing, craft stuff) there are some things that I don't and WON'T pay more for...kids shoes, kids clothes...kids anything because they're just going to grow out of it or lose interest in it...and ill pick them up at walmart...but I truly think there is a message playing in that music because every time I go in there I end up with more than what was on my list! lol damn subliminal messages :P

Trying to find the balance between work and play with kids can be hard. I am no expert and I'm sure since it is a pet peeve of mine at least one of my children will be a 30 year old basement dweller with no job. There are days i think how much easier it would be if I let them do what they wanted and just picked up all the chores myself...I get tired of the constant arguing and attitude...and I HATE being the "bad guy" all the time. but...I don't..I keep arguing and being "mean" because in the end Im not here to be their friend, Im here to be their parent and shape them into contributing members of society. some days that just really sucks :( And who knows if it will work. bah...parenthood...there should be a manual!
